Introduction:
In our day-to-day work with IBM® Notes®, the Typeahead feature is used extensively. While addressing a new mail message or an invitation, when you start typing a name, you get a “type ahead” list, suggesting matching contacts from your My/Recent Contacts. Many times, you see names closely matching the contact you are addressing; this may lead to confusion in selecting the right contact from the Typeahead list, and result in sending email to an incorrect recipient.
How to prevent showing unwanted names in Typeahead:
Deleting contacts from your Recent Contacts does not solve the issue, as those contacts get re-added to your Recent Contacts, and are shown again in Typeahead.
A new feature called “Hide in Typeahead” was introduced in Notes 8.5.3 as an alternative for removing unwanted or bad addresses from type ahead list. Now, IBM® Notes® 9.0.1 improves the user experience related to the “Hide in Typeahead” feature in Contacts.
Combined with other new features in IBM Notes 9.0.1, “Hide in Typeahead” is more user friendly, and is quickly accessible in the Typeahead list itself, while you are addressing an email. You need not open your Contacts to mark a contact as “Hide in Typeahead”.
Description:
'Hide in Typeahead' feature in Notes 8.5.3 and later:
Open the Contacts application, and navigate to the Recent Contacts list. Select unwanted contacts, and mark them as “Hide in Type Ahead”. This will prevent those contacts from showing in the Typeahead list.
Those contacts will also be marked for “Hide in Typeahead”, if you open and close a Non-Delivery Report after an email delivery failure for a bad address.
Enhanced “Hide in Typeahead” in Notes 9.0.1:
In addition to the functionality added in Notes 8.5.3, Notes 9.0.1 has enhanced it further, and provides it right there in the Typeahead list.
In IBM Notes 9.0.1, when you see an unwanted contact, or bad address, in Typeahead, click on the cross (X) next to the address. This will mark the address as “Hide in Type Ahead” and will prevent it from showing in your Typeahead list.
You can also right click the address and select “Hide in Type Ahead”.
How to use “Show in Typeahead” / un-do “Hide in Typeahead”:
A contact marked as “Hide in Typeahead” can be restored by using the button “Show In Typeahead”.
Launch the Contacts application and navigate to the Recent Contacts list. Select the contacts to restore, and mark them as “Show in Typeahead”.
